HEAR WHAT THE CM2 COACHES HAD TO SAY ABOUT PHEM

Rob:

"I've had the pleasure of working closely with Phem. She's the kind of student that makes coaching a pleasure. All the other members love when Phem is in class. She's very hard-working but also has a wonderful sense of humor that makes her fun to be with. Last year I trained Phem 3 times per week in the build up to The Essex Weightlifting Competition at CrossFit Colchester. Phem is incredibly strong and dedicated but her main battle is in her head. At the comp she managed to focus on what she had to do and came away with a medal, this made me very proud to be her coach. Recently her consistency in training has been outstanding. This is extremely impressive considering she's also the proud mother of three. She's dedicated to her kids and spends lots of time ferrying them to various sporting activities. Some parents throw in the towel when they have kids but Phem is leading by example and instilling the values of working hard and the importance of physical activity."

Lewis:

"I thoroughly enjoy coaching Phem. Every training session she turns up with a big smile on her face but is also focused and ready to work. Currently Phem’s focus is geared more towards the Weightlifting side of things, however this doesn’t stop her travelling back to CM2 for a second session in the evening to work on other elements of performance she considers weaknesses - which is great to see. Phem is a big character among all the members and is a pleasure to work with. I am certainly looking forward to seeing her throw up some big numbers at the CM2 Weightlifting Competition in April. Keep up the good work Phem!"

Rich:

"I love having Phem in a class. You can always hear her laughing and having fun, and it's great to see this rubbing off on to everyone in the room. She pushes herself hard even when she is tired and has had a long commute to the gym. It's great to see her approach to training is paying off as evidenced by consistent improvement in her performance. I think we can all easily agree that Phem is an absolute beast."

THE MEMBER OF  THE MONTH QUESTIONNAIRE!

When did your CrossFit journey first begin?

"I first attended a CrossFit class in August 2013. I joined Crossfit Huntsman in Hertford as a friend had recently started training CrossFit with her PT."

What brought you to CrossFit CM2?

"I began working close by and CM2 became a more practical option to train. I had also always heard great things about the CrossFit CM2 so it was an easy transition."

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

"When I did the Open WOD 14.5. The workout was 21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3 of thrusters with burpee over bar. Half way through the WOD I actually started to cry and begged my coach to let me stop but she said no. I had no choice but to keep going. That was the first time I realised the power of self talk and the value of mental toughness."

What is your favourite movement / workout?

"I like anything where I have to move weight from shoulder to overhead.  My favourite workout is 'DT' (a hero workout). 'DT' (a hero workout).

What is your least favourite movement / workout ?

"Burpees and my least favourite workout is anything with running in it!!"

When you are not at CM2 training with us, what are you busy doing?

"The majority of my spare time is spent attending my children's extra curricular activities. I also enjoy going to the movies and enjoy a tasty meal out now and again."

What is your favourite part of being a member of CM2?

"Everytime I walk through the door, I know I will be greeted by so many friendly faces. I know the advice given by all the coaches is what I need to hear although may not be what I want hear at the time. I feel like I'm being coached by professionals who are always trying to get the best out of me. They always have your back which is comforting to know."

If you could give any new member a piece of advice, what would it be?

"Don't be afraid to scale, learn all strict movements first. Kipping is not a quick fix."

Tell us a fun fact about yourself...

"In 2012 I jumped out of an aeroplane at 13'000 feet in memory of my cousin."

What are your training targets and goals for 2017?

"My goal this year is to achieve a 160kg weightlifting total by the end of 2017 and qualify for the British WL championships 2018."
